The Underdog No Longer

Get caught on the wrong side of the law in Geauga County, Ohio, and you might find yourself nose to nose with the world’s smallest police dog, Midge. A two-year-old Chihuahua mix, Midge genuinely likes her job, which just happens to be sniffing for drugs. “She gets excited every morning when she sees me put on my uniform,” says her human partner, Sheriff Dan McClelland. “Midge is at her best when it’s time to work. She amazes me with her nose.” Besides being an excellent narcotics dog, Midge has served as a great ambassador for the county. Midge gets along well with everyone, but she loves children, and they love her back. Says Sheriff McClelland, “Children relate well to her because, like them, she clearly demonstrates that you don’t have to be big to do good things.” We wholeheartedly agree!
