The Rankings Are In and the Winner Is...
The American Kennel Club (AKC) recently released its latest list of the top 10 breeds in America, which came with a few surprises. The most popular dog for the past 16 years remains the Labrador retriever. But the second-ranked breed is now the Yorkshire terrier, which has overtaken both the German shepherd dog and the golden retriever. This toy-group dog has steadily climbed the charts, but to surpass these larger breeds in popularity really says something about our current canine favorites. Or could it be that more and more people are watching Eva Gabor on reruns of Green Acres, where her tiny Yorkshire terrier steals every scene? Either way, a big “yay!” for the Yorkie!
