Sam, World's Ugliest Dog, Dies
Sam was the three-time winner of the “World’s Ugliest Dog” title at California’s Sonoma-Martin fair. The Chinese crested hairless dog succumbed to heart failure on November 18, just short of his 15th birthday. His adoring owner, Susie Lockheed, said of him, “I don’t think there will ever be another Sam. Sadly, some people might think that is a good thing.” Sam, with his hairless body, crooked misshapen teeth, and sharp clumps of hair atop his knobby head, had become a celebrity of sorts after numerous television appearances in Asia and Europe. Susie has kept Sam’s favorite toy, a stuffed bear, tucked neatly beneath her bedroom blanket. “I have snuggled with Sam under my blankets for 6 years, and his toy has his smell. I never want to forget.” Sam may be gone, but he is not forgotten. He lives on at www.samugliestdog.com. RIP, Sam.
