You think you have problems . . . Four pelicans were detained in an animal “drunk tank” holding cell on suspicion of public intoxication. The official Huntington Beach, California, report says that these peculiar pelicans were flagged down for flying under the influence. Such behavior usually signals domoic acid poisoning caused by consumption of tainted algae. This is not the first time we have seen bingeing birds. They have inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s flock of flying floozies in his classic film The Birds. Officials say that as soon as these pooped pelicans sobered up, they were released on their own recognizance.
