Fishbowl Cruelty No More!
Let’s face it—goldfish have it tough: scooped up in tiny plastic bags, dumped into little glass bowls with murky water, given away at carnivals, forced to swim in circles, and worse. But now, finally, something has been done to ease the misery of these mistreated pets. The municipal government of Rome, Italy, has entered into waters where few have ever dared swim. Under a new ordinance, the city’s goldfish are entitled to proper and sufficiently large lodging with clean and appropriate water to enjoy during their daytime laps. Also, the city has now made it illegal to give goldfish away as prizes in contests.
