A Canine Ice Surfer
As it turns out, a black Lab named Max who everyone thought was lost was, in fact, stranded. After an all-out search by Max’s owners, Kathy and Dennis Platt of Murdock, Nebraska, proved futile, the feisty pooch was finally spotted floating on a frozen river or, as some saw it, surfing on a chunk of ice. Max decided he’d been there long enough and jumped into the frigid water. A brave member of the Nebraska Humane Society, Mark Langan, reached into the river and pulled the shivering dog onto the shore, where volunteers with towels were waiting to warm him up. Because Max was in great shape before the ordeal, he’s now doing fine, with his only lingering problem being, well, he’s not too crazy about ice water.
