Dog Heroes

Proving once again the faithfulness of man’s best friend, two stories have emerged of dogs acting heroically:

First, two puppies worked together to help a Virginia toddler survive a freezing night in the woods. Three-year-old Jaylynn Thorpe was missing for 21 hours in Halifax County, with only his faithful pets to keep him company. When rescuers found the boy, the dogs were nestled at his side, providing protection against the cold.

Second, you can forget about the rivalry between cats and dogs. A Sydney, Australia, dog refused to leave a litter of kittens that was under his watchful eye—even as their house burned around them. The dog, a terrier cross named Leo, stayed by the kittens’ side and had to be revived with oxygen when the group was discovered by firefighters.
