INTERVIEW WITH THE ADVENTURERS
Naturalist Vanessa Garnick and filmmaker Tristan Bayer sat down with HealthyPet’s own Blaine Novak for a rapid-fire discussion about their passion for all that is living and their new, upcoming Animal Planet series that reflects this passion, Caught in the Moment.

HP: What is the central theme in Caught in the Moment??Vanessa: The environment and to be one with it. Our intention in this series is to reach out to remote places and experience what is meant to be pure, natural and untouched by man.

HP: Your subjects are animals and the environments they live in. Was there one predominant thought in your mind as you filmed them?

Tristan: For the viewers to experience the moments exactly as we experienced them.

HP: Were there guidelines during filming, lines that would never be crossed?

Vanessa: Yes, absolutely. We never touched anything, we never interfered with the environments or inhabitants of the environments that we filmed. We filmed everything exactly the way we saw it then left as if we were never there...??

HP: Is there one movie you would repeatedly see?

Vanessa: Out of Africa.

HP: If you could hear one last piece of music, what would it be?

Vanessa: Mozart, the theme from Out of Africa.

Tristan: Night sounds of the jungle.

HP: Is there one thing you would never leave home without?

Vanessa: Lip sunscreen.

Tristan: My backpack filled with camera and equipment.

HP: What was your diet during shooting in such remote places?

Vanessa: We ate with indigenous tribes, so we ate what they ate and, for that matter, slept where they slept.

HP: Is there a single person or animal you would most like to be alone in a room with?

Vanessa: The Dalai Lama.

Tristan: Gandhi.
